Chelsea predicted XI vs Wolves: 3-4-3 works quite well
Mateo Kovacic (No. 8) Right central midfielder, Croatia
Kovacic looked more like the player he was before he got injured around the middle of last season, though his passing and dribbling are not yet quite what they were. He now needs to use this performance as a springboard for a more consistent appearance in the starting lineup and even better performances.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (No. 12) Central midfielder, England
Ruben Loftus-Cheek was very good against Milan. He won 10/16 duels, won four fouls, and made seven defensive actions. He has earned himself another start. Loftus-Cheek also created a clear-cut chance for the Blues, even though it was a scramble in the six-yard box.
Raheem Sterling (No. 17) Left attacking midfielder, England
Sterling didn’t score against Milan but he was key to how well the Blues played. He affected the game a lot by what he did off the ball, letting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang occupy spaces he vacated while moving to receive the ball on the flanks.
Mason Mount (No. 19) Right attacking midfielder, England
Mount was great against Milan, much like all of Chelsea’s forwards in that game. He completed all three dribbles, as well as an impressive 3/4 crosses. His work rate was commendable, making 20 pressures. He made no successful tackle but created more chances than any Chelsea player in that match.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (No. 9) Center forward, Gabon
Aubameyang wowed the fans again with his superb movement. He scored after Fikayo Tomori fumbled the clearance from a well-struck James cross. His excellent anticipation allowed him to be in a position to finish from that cross, doubling the Blues‘ lead.
