Chelsea had been getting away with allowing high-quality chances for the past three weeks, constantly getting bailed out by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s heroics. The Blues’ defense has been poor for a while, and the midfield has been unable to control games for even longer. In the last match against Brighton & Hove Albion, the chickens…eh, seagulls came home to roost. The less said about that game the better, but here’s who we think Graham Potter selects to start the final group stage fixture of this UEFA Champions League campaign:

Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy (No. 16) Goalkeeper, Senegal

Mendy came on for an injured Kepa Arrizabalaga in the second half of the Brighton drubbing. He misplaced a pass that led to a shot, but he saved the shot comfortably. He parried a shot in the closing stages of the game that he perhaps should have held, which led to two rebounds that eventually resulted in BHAFC’s fourth goal. He was good though, making four times the number of saves Arrizabalaga made (4), as well as completing 3/5 long balls.

Trevoh Chalobah (No. 14) Right centerback, England

Chalobah was horrendous in the last game, though he wasn’t helped by the midfield that remained in their beds for the entirety of the game no less. Brighton exploited Chelsea’s right flank, helped by the fact that Chalobah was often caught in two minds about who he should focus his attention on, and also the fact that CFC had no one covering any centerback.
