Currently, los Blancos is tied for third in the Spanish top-flight tied with Madrid CFF following an extremely unconvincing win over a Sporting Huelva side that is in the bottom four of the league. In a home match against a high-powered Barcelona side, Real Madrid was only able to muster up one shot on target, allowing a whopping 12 to the 2020/21 competition winners in a 4-0 drubbing at home.

The Blues put together arguably its most complete performance against Vllaznia at home in the last fixture in the Champions League, defeating the Albanian side 8-0 at Kingsmeadow. Even though Toril’s side has plenty of young talent like goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez, and forward, Athenea del Castillo combined with the veteran presence of Weir, and Claudia Zornoza, it is hard to see a Spanish side in their current form taking over the top of the group in a clash on the road with one of if not the deepest team Europe has to offer.

Weir will be familiar with a CFCW side that caused her nightmares during her four seasons at Man City, but as a club, Real Madrid has never met the Blues in a competitive match. This will be the second season that the Spanish side will be competing in the Champions League. In order to get into the group stage, Real Madrid has to defeat three different teams, including Gareth Taylor’s MCFC, and Norwegian side Rosenborg BK. Overall, it is the third time the Blues have met with Spanish opposition in the tournament. In the 2020/21 campaign, Chelsea took on both Atlético Madrid and Barcelona.
