The signing Graham Potter wishes for most at Chelsea
The signing Graham Potter most wishes for during the January transfer window at Chelsea has been revealed. The Pride of London offer our verdict on a possible Josko Gvardiol deal at Stamford Bridge.
In recent times, football followers declared that Gvardiol would become a world class centreback. Well, he seems to have already achieved that feat. The RB Leipzig player has just added a host of extra admirers – both fans and potential suitors – following some commanding performances for Croatia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Croatians seek quarterfinal progression on Monday afternoon. Gvardiol and current Blues midfielder Mateo Kovacic both start for their national team versus Japan at the tournament. This is another obvious and clear signal of the defender’s pedigree; having an international teammate on Fulham Way, should he join, is another bonus for the Croat.
Reports are, incidentally, beginning to increase again with regard to the 20-year-old possibly coming to Chelsea. In fact, Express Sport suggest that Gvardiol is the signing that the Blues head coach, Potter, most wishes for. That is quite the compliment.
This revelation also sheds light on the state of the CFC starting XI, in the former Brighton & Hove Albion gaffer’s mind: he needs further centrebacks. The Zagreb-born athlete would solidify the defence and could be a great partner for Wesley Fofana for many seasons to come. However, Tottenham Hotspur will battle their London rivals for the signature, the story states.
Chelsea finalising appointment of new director
According to PoL affiliate 90min, former Leipzig man Christopher Vivell will join the west London club as a director. Talks were held between CFC and Vivell earlier in the year; soon after the apparent interaction, the German’s contract with the Bundesliga team was terminated.
The Blues supposedly ‘stepped up’ negotiations with the 35-year-old upon his release. Why the hold up, if a deal between Vivell and Chels’ was already agreed? The ex-technical director had ‘loose ends to tie’ in Germany.
Furthermore, it is said that Chelsea have been cordial and not pushed for the appointment because they want to ensure a decent and respectful relationship with Leipzig. This will possibly aid the capture of Christopher Nkunku and Gvardiol; some sources claim that Nkunku’s move is all but complete, in more promising Blues news.
