On a plethora of occasions, the Blues’ high press combined with the Spanish side’s lack of ability to clear the ball away from danger provided the London outfit with chances that could have been prevented. Though Real Madrid has quality like Esther González up top, and Olga Carmona on the wing of the defense, there is far too much ability on Chelsea’s side up and down the roster for a team like Los Blancos to compete with for an entire 90 minutes.

There are going to be obstacles down the road in the Champions League, but a trip to Spain for the first time this season seems to be one that CFC can approach head on considering the form it is in. Two goals have found the back of the net against Chelsea in the last 720 minutes of football, and combining that 11 different goal scorers during that span, Hayes possesses the ultimate winning formula.

During the summer, it was evident that the club wanted to add versatility all over the pitch, and in doing so, Hayes has the ability to mold her team in any way she chooses. There is arguably no hotter team in women’s football right now than CFC, and with its capacity to rotate its world class depth each week, it is going to take a mammoth effort even for a team sitting at near the top of their respective domestic league to overcome.
