How Chelsea players fared in the World Cup Round of 16
All Chelsea players reached the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup except Kai Havertz. These fresh matches were always going to be even more difficult than the group stage matches, and it has to be said before anything else that the players gave all they could.
Only five Blues remain in the World Cup after the Knockout stages: Thiago Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, and Hakim Ziyech. Six if you include Conor Gallagher, who has not played one minute of football in the competition as of yet.
Edouard Mendy, Chelsea (Goalkeeper) and Senegal
Mendy did not have a good game against England but the scoreline paints him in a worse light than in reality. Of the three goals that the Senegalese conceded on the night, Mendy could’ve done better for the first one, as the shot missed his wrist by a hair’s width, but had he parried it, it would have fallen to Bukayo Saka anyway. The other two goals were more down to Senegal’s inability to defend their box than anything Mendy did or didn’t do.
