Following another drubbing at the hands of Manchester City, Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf strongly criticised boss Graham Potter and players Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Jorginho. Does Leboeuf have a point? The Pride of London explore.
Frank Leboeuf is a name synonymous with modern Blues history, and he is still revered by the majority of fans from what I have read and heard. Leboeuf lifted six significant trophies while on Fulham Road. That is if you count all of the achievements such as the now abolished UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and the English Super Cup, also known as the Community Shield. Those honours are alongside two FA Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the English League Cup.
The Frenchman, now an actor, actually departed from CFC a couple of years before previous owner Roman Abramovich took charge. Though he was part of the thrilling group which contained Ruud Gullit, Gianluca Vialli, Dennis Wise, Didier Deschamps and Gianfranco Zola, amongst many, many other elite talents.
Leboeuf still holds a passion for the west London team. So much so that whilst working as a pundit, the former elegant defender slammed current Blues head coach Graham Potter, along with prominent yet underperforming players Mason Mount and Kai Havertz and Jorginho:
"“Mr Potter, enough is enough now, something needs to be changed. That’s not the club I know. You are so far away from being a champion of Europe. “I’m very upset with what I see. I think it’s really disrespectful. They don’t do anything to at least make people proud. Fight! Go for it!”“I’ve never seen Chelsea so low!”“The players don’t have the will, they don’t have the guts, they don’t have the courage to fight for their colours. They don’t have pride!“The players who are forming the spine, they are shameful. They do nothing. I don’t know what Kai Havertz is doing. Mason, I love you, but come on! I don’t know what Jorginho is doing on the pitch still!?”"
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy undergoes surgery
Kepa Arrizabalaga has fully dislodged former Chelsea No.1 Edouard Mendy as Graham Potter’s preferred goalkeeper. To be fair to Kepa, he has played very well this season, at times astonishingly. Even though some of the poor habits and occasional lack of confidence are seemingly creeping back into the Spain international’s game. Meanwhile the Senegalese bides his time patiently and quietly, at least in the public eye.
However, Mendy has now undergone surgery on an injured finger. Obviously that is pretty much the last area of the body where a stopper wants a problem. Though, as you can see in the above tweet, ‘Edou’ was in good spirits soon after his operation.
At present, there is no return date published or mooted for the 30-year-old. Although the news is another setback in his quest to reestablish himself at Stamford Bridge, the likeable athlete will likely return stronger. With respect to the current injury crisis on Fulham Road, boss Potter said he’s faced nothing like it during his managerial career.
