After rescuing a point in north London last weekend, Emma Hayes and Chelsea Women return to the surroundings of Kingsmeadow to take on the only club that has managed to defeat them in any competition this season: Liverpool. Since the opening match of the WSL campaign, Matt Beard and his squad have gone in a completely different direction compared to the Blues.
The Reds have managed just one win since Katie Stengel sealed a shocking three points with two penalty kicks for Liverpool to open up its return to the English top flight. It will be the first of two matches these clubs will have against each other within the next week.
This is the type of match that Hayes and CFC wished they had right out of the break. Although, after what was a lackluster offensive display against the Gunners, this is the kind of contest the Blues need to get back in the rhythm of things after almost a month away from competitive football. It will be the 23rd match between these two clubs, with CFC coming out on top in 15 of those contests while the Reds have defeated the Blues in four of those instances.
