Chelsea’s board has done their part and now it’s up to Graham Potter

Chelsea is currently having one of the busiest transfer windows any club had in January. They have already permanently signed five players and have recruited Joao Felix on loan. There are also reports of players signed for the summer. They could even sign one or more players before the transfer window closes.
They are currently tenth in the league and already out of two domestic cups. But due to signings and potential incomings, fans are excited more about that.
Benoît Badiashile has impressed mightly in the backline alongside evergreen Thiago Silva. Felix was impressive in his start despite the red card. Mykhailo Mudryk looked very sharp in his cameo despite not playing an official game since November. Andrey Santos has been one of the standout players in the ongoing U-20 South American Championship.
This is in stark contrast to the signings club made in the summer. Carney Chukwuemeka stands out. Marc Cucurella had his moments along with Raheem Sterling.
Chelsea boss Graham Potter needs to deliver now
But once the window closes, the focus will be back entirely on the team’s performances and Graham Potter. He will have to involve the new players while managing the players returning from injuries. More importantly, the team’s results have to be improved.
So far this month, fans are not being critical as they were in the previous months. New arrivals and the excitement around it are the reason. But once the window closes, the scrutiny will be even more on Potter.
Even though the top four looks very far, it would still be their target regarding the premier league. Apart from that, they will have to be concerned only about the progression to the last eight of the UEFA Champions League. The European title is the only piece of silverware Chelsea have any realistic chance of lifting.
Winning it will also enable them to qualify for the competition next season, something they did back in 2012. At the moment, it will be a daunting task for Potter to replicate. The Englishman has the backing of the management.
The board has done its part in recruiting talents the club needs so quickly. Potter’s real job starts now. He needs to deliver results while identifying players who need to be offloaded. The start of his tenure didn’t go well, but he has all the tools at his disposal to end his first season as Chelsea’s head coach well.
Will Chelsea secure a top four finish?
