Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea: 3 negatives from Blues’ toothless display
1. Substitutions
By the grace of Boehly and his team, Chelsea are blessed with an abundance of quality players on the sidelines. And as usual, it was put to no use. Although, the Blues did enjoy a decent start to the game dominating possession. By the time we approached half time, the need for changes was quite evident.
Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech struggled to have any influence on the game which led to their frustration. This frustration almost led to a sending off, thanks to VAR, the decision was overturned and the red shown to the Moroccan was downgraded to a yellow.
However it was perceptible that the duo had to be taken off considering their minimal impact on the first half and their poor conduct. To add to it both of them were on a yellow and any minor reckless move could bring Chelsea down to 10 men.
But to everyone’s surprise, the duo were back on the pitch for the second half. And it wasn’t limited to that. The Blues suffered an early setback after which everything started going downhill, it was obvious that the attackers lacked intent and CFC could do with some pace on the pitch, but Potter let the game flow. And by the time he decided to introduce the likes of Mudryk and Aubameyang, Spurs doubled their lead and sealed the game.
