Tottenham 2-0 Chelsea: 3 negatives from Blues’ toothless display
2. The veteran was forced out with an injury
Chels’ have relied heavily on the Brazilian International all season, in fact ever since he joined the club. In spite of all that has happened at the club and the results, it would be fair to say that Thiago Silva has been only player who has performed consistently.
The Blues have not had a set center back pairing with Wesley Fofana picking up a long term injury early on in the season, Kalidou Koulibaly struggling to settle in and then the signing of Benoit Badiashile. But Silva has been constant and has performed regardless of who plays alongside.
The 38 year old injured his left knee and was forced out of the game within the first 20 minutes. Although the club have not yet got it scanned and released a potential return date, losing Silva has to be a major negative from the game.
A minor positive through this setback was Koulibaly and Fofana stepping up. The duo put on a decent display and ensured that the CFC supporters can rely on them in the absence of the veteran.
