The Pride of London discuss and offer a verdict on a very significant piece of news on Chelsea and England winger Raheem Sterling’s future. Sterling may perhaps become one of the experienced CFC stars to lift the side out of the relatively nightmarish scenario they find themselves in. Graham Potter must devise or discover a basic but powerful formula – the tried and tested among the roster could be key.

But some people are expecting Sterling to possibly depart Chelsea at the end of 2022/23 due to all the wingmen that have been acquired. However, BBC journalist Simon Stone suggests that is not the case:

"“Raheem Sterling fully committed to @ChelseaFC following summer move. Told he has not expressed discontent and is looking forward to building on personal success of previous seasons.”"

The Declan Rice to Chelsea saga rumbles on with a potential Arsenal intervention

I’ve previously said Rice would potentially fill a gap, or position, very well at Stamford Bridge. Regardless of N’golo Kante’s expected extended stay on Fulham Road, prudence for the longterm is also required.

Rice hasn’t been quite as influential of late; maybe the ongoing state of uncertainty and speculation surrounding his career is partially at fault. Then there is his club West Ham United’s overall terrible form and season – has that affected Rice or influenced his significant upcoming summer decision. Should the favourite under Gareth Southgate at international level be doing more to aid his club this campaign? Another way of looking at the situation is that Rice’s Hammers teammates aren’t helping themselves, nor are the majority doing what they can to ensure prominent personnel such as the midfielder remain in east London.

Nevertheless, the Blues are continuously linked with the 24-year-old. The ex-Chelsea youth player would prospectively improve Arsenal’s midfield, too. While a partnership between Thomas Partey and the former feels slightly negative, replacing Granit Xhaka is a possibility, though he is excelling generally. Obviously starting all three would be too defensive. Though every team gunning for the Premier League title needs world-class depth to its squad, regardless of overloading.

Next. Thiago Silva may return for this important CFC game. dark

Irrespective of my opinion on these top footballers, the Gunners are said to be monitoring Rice and believe they are capable of swooping in ahead of the Blues. He might perhaps cost the north Londoners £80million, but The Times’ Gary Jacob claims Mikel Arteta and AFC recruitment staff are ‘confident’.
