I can’t believe it finally happened, Chelsea won a football match. There were times over the past month-and-a-half when I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to write those words again. But here we are. The Blues managed to win Saturday’s gritty contest against Leeds United with sturdy defense and an incredible individual performance from Wesley Fofana. The young Frenchman has been superb since returning from a knee injury in the middle of February. The victory may have bought Graham Potter a little more time on the Stamford Bridge touchline, but the English tactician can’t get too comfortable with another massive game looming on the horizon.

Tuesday’s meeting with Borussia Dortmund could potentially be Chelsea’s last meaningful match of the season. The Blues find themselves down 1-0 to the black and yellow, courtesy of Karim Adeyemi’s superb solo goal from a few weeks ago, amid BVB’s best run of form in recent memory. They’ve won 10 consecutive outings while outscoring their opponents 25-8 on aggregate. Julian Brandt has been particularly effective during Dortmund’s winning streak, scoring four times and assisting two more in a late push to be named the club’s player of the season. There’s no doubt the pride will have its hands full with the eight-time Bundesliga champions, but perhaps the weekend win will have given Potter and his squad the necessary confidence to pull off the upset.
