Chelsea and Mason Mount are inching closer to parting ways with each other in the summer. The talks of a new contract between the club and the Englishman have hit a dead end and eventually stalled. With Mount now touted to leave Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are working on locating his replacement.

Mount’s love story with Chelsea seems to be coming to a sour end. The 24 year old was envisioned to be of the greatest that Chelsea have ever produced. Coming through the ranks at Chelsea, the Cobham academy graduate left a startling first impression. On loan at Derby County, Chelsea legend Frank Lampard truly unearthed a gem in Mount, coaching him and polishing his skills.

Lampard’s impressive stint at Derby saw him land the Chelsea job. The ban in the transfer window saw Lampard resort to youngsters and Mount became the nucleus of that side. In his first full season at Chelsea, the Portsmouth born made a total 53 appearances, netting eight goals and assisting another six.

Mount was also a core part of Chelsea’s Champions League team that clinched the big-eared trophy under Thomas Tuchel. Mount ended the 2020-21 season with impressive numbers, scoring nine goals and assisting nine in 54 appearances.

In the two seasons, Mount became a household name at Chelsea. Mount reciprocated the love with even better performances although the Blues did not win any trophy in the 2021-22 season but played the two cup finals, losing to Liverpool on both occasions.

Since Graham Potter took over the Blues, Mount continued to be an important part of the Chelsea team. The former Brighton boss continued to trust Mount even though his performances started to dip.

There was a suspicion that the disturbances in the contract talks were taking an effect on Mount’s performances as the Englishman struggled in games and did not make a positive impact in games like he used to. Mount’s deal expires in the summer of 2024 and the Blues want to tie him down to a new deal.

The 24 year old is currently one of the lowest earners at the club, not even making it in the top 20 top earners at the club. He is on an £80,000 per week contract and wants a new contract that will see him earn similar to some of his England teammates. The rumoured wage that Mount is demanding is £300,000 per week. The Blues want to tie him down to an eight year contract but the 24 year old does not want to sign such a long contract.

The contract talks haven’t reached an impasse yet but have surely stalled. According to Fabrizio Romano, it is very likely that Mount will leave Chelsea in July if a new contract isn’t signed. The Blues are already preparing for the possibility of Mount leaving and have started looking in the market for his replacement.

According to ESPN, CFC are monitoring Fulham attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira. The former Manchester United man is being viewed as a possible Mount replacement. Pereira joined Fulham last summer and has been a key cog in Marco Silva’s side, starting all 27 Premier League games and in the process making eight goal contributions.

Pereira has shined in Fulham colours and his solid performances haven’t gone unnoticed as PSG also track the Brazilian. The 27 year old is happy at Fulham but the pull of Chelsea could sway him into changing his stance. The Cottagers value him between £25 million and £35 million as his deal runs till 2026 and he has been flying under Silva.

As Mount’s situation develops, more names could get linked to Chelsea in the near future.
