Chelsea’s injury concerns have severely worsened in recent weeks. Eight arguably important stars and understudies are currently sidelined; the news appears to have gone somewhat under the radar.

Having almost 10 players unavailable for selection would be unprecedented for CFC, although a larger number were out of action a while back. Due to the Blues beginning to attain more points and showcase a realistic version of themselves as a collective, the mounting fitness problems seem to have been slightly overlooked, in my opinion. There are, however, extra elements of positivity along with an uptick in results. France international N’Golo Kante is ready to make an overdue comeback; this may have taken attention away from the medical room.

At present, Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Edouard Mendy, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Armando Broja are all on the sidelines. Obviously Auba wasn’t really in contention for the XI. But the increasingly crucial Wesley Fofana also withdrew from a maiden call-up to the French squad.

Silva’s absence would make any team weaker, particularly in his prime. Though, ironically, the west London club produced a decent four-game streak during the Brazilian’s spell on the sideline. First of all, the Blues haven’t lost in that period which is progress under Graham Potter, believe it not. Secondly, the side managed to clinch three wins whilst on the run; that should be four, if not for the Everton equaliser.

Anyway, I digress, back to the Brazil legend. Thiago is not expected to available for a phase having suffered a knee injury in the Tottenham Hotspur match. He has now shown a photograph of a Cryotech Nordic kit attached to his leg. The implement aims to improve mobility by reducing inflammation and swelling.

Unfortunately the update is ambiguous as to whether or not the centreback is on track with his rehabilitation. The signs are that he won’t be returning anytime soon.
