After what was arguably one of the worst starts a manager could envision and losing faith of majority of the Chels’ faithful, Graham Potter was certainly feeling the heat. However Boehly and co. backed the Solihull native throughout and a change in formation eventually paid off. The football on the pitch was a lot more convincing leading to three wins and an unlucky draw before the International break could intrude. The victories also include emphatic wins over the German giants Borussia Dortmund, which saw Chelsea progress to the Quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League where they will yet again meet the defending champions, Real Madrid.

International breaks are generally viewed as a tribulation by clubs and their supporters. And when these breaks are called during the climax of the season, it gets all the more infuriating as it puts the best players at the club at the risk of injuries.

Hapless Chelsea would obviously not escape, Reece James and Kai Havertz have already withdrawn from their International teams halfway through their campaign. Nevertheless, it has benefitted one of the young Chelsea signings who used the platform to make a statement.

Noni Madueke – Chelsea’s forgotten asset

Lee Carsley called for a demolition job as the England U-21’s emerged victors against the France U-21’s in a 4-0 friendly win at the King Power Stadium. Chelsea starlet Noni Madueke’s 20 minute cameo handed the English complete control of the game with his remarkable player of the match performance.

The question that arises now is

Why is Madueke not to be seen in a Chelsea shirt?

Noni Madueke joined the West Londoners from PSV Eindhoven in the winter transfer window for a fee of around £30 million. And since then, the flamboyant winger has only made four appearances in a blue outfit.

Mykhailo Mudryk’s struggle for minutes overshadowed Madueke’s absence. The winger was an evident threat to the opposition every time he stepped onto the field. However, the Gaffer has completely disregarded his presence by not even bringing him on as a sub over the last month. The fact that Madueke struggled for minutes in the absence of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic is all the more concerning.

However, after his stellar performance on the International stage, Madueke will return to the CFC camp with much more confidence having made the Chelsea supporters aware of his abilities and will definitely cause some headache when it comes to team selections in the future.

Also considering the congested schedule that awaits with Chelsea potentially playing nine games next month, Potter can definitely provide Madueke with the playtime he warrants.
