Chelsea vs Aston Villa: 3 Blues Graham Potter must start
2. Noni Madueke
Since joining the club in January, the English youth international Noni Madueke has only contributed in four matches throughout all competitions. With a productive international window behind him, it seems like a brilliant idea to build off the form he has created during the last week. With the question marks surrounding Raheem Sterling, and Mason Mount’s health for this weekend, this is the perfect opportunity to award a player that is no doubt coming back to Cobham with a new found confidence.
With an extremely congested schedule in the month of April in both the domestic league and Champions League, Potter is going to have to provide players like Madueke the opportunity to shine. Since coming over for a fee around £30million, Madueke’s talent had almost been forgotten by the CFC faithful. That was until Saturday, March 25. In the 65′ Madueke came on for Arsenal winger Emile Smith Rowe following his goal that opened the scoring against France’s U-21 side in the 50′. Lee Carsley’s side needed a spark to pull away from the French at the King Power Stadium. The former PSV man provided it.
Madueke’s constant movement off the ball led to a left-footed strike in the 77′ that became his first goal for the England U-21’s. In his short stint on the pitch, Madueke completely shifted the momentum into England’s favor. The 21-year-old would go on to assist to Jacob Ramsey, and Liverpool’s Curtis Jones to push the lead to four. Despite back to back success appearances for the west London outfit to begin his career in west London, he had fallen through the cracks. His man of the match display during the break should change that.
