Chelsea 0-2 Aston Villa: 3 underwhelming Blues
Chelsea has lost another game in the Premier League and the Blues are now, for the first time this season, in the bottom half of the table. Graham Potter looked for the first time like it was just dawning on him that he could actually be sacked. Chelsea actually didn’t play badly, a lot of what killed the Blues on the day was execution. They got into good positions and had the right idea in many plays, but executing those ideas was where the Blues mainly failed. The players highlighted here are players that failed in their execution in key situations. Here are the three players that were underwhelming in that sense.
Mykhailo Mudryk (No. 15), Chelsea, Center forward, Ukraine
Chelsea had two chances to take the lead before they went behind in the first half. The first was from a defensive error the Blues pounced on when Aston Villa was trying to play out from the back, the second was from a perfectly weighted through pass by Mateo Kovacic. Both chances fell to the Ukraine international, and not only did he miss both chances, they were both saved. First of all, the Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez deserves credit for saving both shots, but they were both big chances, and Mudryk did poorly in both shots.
