According to a report, Chelsea’s favoured choice of new manager has been revealed. But another famous boss is said to be in talks. Meanwhile CFC legend Frank Lampard has also entered frame; the retired Blue might perhaps take on a caretaker role for the remainder of 22/23.

Before we discuss what is happening behind the scenes, we must briefly detail and appraise what is happening on the pitch. Chels‘ are currently simply an unfinished Graham Potter project which was showered with overpriced and unnecessary signings by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. It’s a proper mess, created by very competent men – in other areas of business. When it comes to running an elite football team with great modern history and a brilliant fan base, the scattergun approach was never going to work.

Obviously many supporters, and this writer, praised Boehly for his ‘won’t take no for an answer’ introduction to the game. Yet, as January rolled past, it was clear that buying any and everyone wouldn’t work; multiple positions on the roster became saturated, the wing department for example. An astute, experienced gaffer is required on Stamford Bridge. More care is needed in recruitment so that the west London club is not extorted for high fees. Finally, a huge clear out of deadwood and overpaid personnel is necessary this summer! Probably on and off the field of play.

So, the wheels seem to be in motion on Fulham Road. Luis Enrique supposedly negotiated for the Blues post on Wednesday; Fabrizio Romano says the Spaniard is keen on the job.

However, Julian Nagelsmann is the apparent preference for the CFC hierarchy. While the German is certainly an intriguing prospect, fans appear to favour Enrique. Lampard steering the ship until a replacement is named or arrives is an ideal holding solution.
