Former Chelsea manager and UCL winning manager not on managerial shortlist
Although Frank Lampard has been appointed as the interim coach until the end of the season, Chelsea are focused on finding a new manager to replace Graham Potter. CFC will be going through an exhaustive process over the next weeks and months before finally selecting the successor. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has also appeared as one of the possible targets, as per some reports.
Chelsea are in the hunt to find a new long term manager after Potter was sacked following the 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa at home. Burno Saltor was made in charge for the Liverpool game but it was soon evident that the Blues will need a far more seasoned manager to command the squad.
With the technical team of Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart in place to conduct an exhaustive process that would see Chelsea consider and evaluate at least five managers, CFC needed time before announcing their new manager. They did not want to rush with the decision as names like Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique and Antonio Conte have been linked.
Carlo Ancelotti on Chelsea managerial shortlist?
Chelsea have already interviewed Enrique, who flew down to London to explain his project at Chelsea. The Blues have held initial talks with Nagelsmann too and along with Enrique, they are the frontrunners for this job.
CFC will have to wait until the end of the season before a decision is made so the club chiefs came up with an alternative plan of instilling a more experienced interim coach in place of Saltor. Lampard was appointed as an interim coach and is set to be in the Chelsea dugout for their trip to Birmingham to face Wolves.
Apart from Nagelsmann and Enrique, other names have also been considered by Chelsea. Jose Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino and Conte have also been discussed but so far no direct meeting have taken place. According to Metro, Chelsea are also considering Ancelotti for the role if he is to part ways with Real Madrid in the summer.
The 63 year old was at Stamford Bridge between 2009 and 2011 where he guided Chelsea to two FA Cups and one Premier League title. However, quashing those reports, journalist Ben Jacobs has stated that Ancelotti is not on Chelsea’s shortlist. CFC’s focus is on a dynamic long term appointment and hence a move for Ancelotti doesn’t appeal highly.
At this point, Nagelsmann or Enrique could get the job but nothing is set in stone in football and things could change dramatically in a matter of hours.
