The strangest Chelsea news so far this season has emerged as it has been claimed that Todd Boehly took on board famous British comedian James Corden’s idea rehire Frank Lampard. Yeah, I know right.
If you’ve read my stuff in the year I’ve been at The Pride of London, you’ll know I pull no punches. At the beginning, I was impressed with Boehly’s reputation and career when he arrived at Stamford Bridge. I assumed the ultra-successful American businessman would have appointed football people around him and the club, considering he was inexperienced in the game.
But Boehly gave himself a quasi-sporting director role and began much – now ridiculous seeming – business. The latest of which is asking actor James Corden for his unwanted and uniformed opinion on the next CFC boss. Supposedly, Corden actually gave the initial recommendation to the Blues chief about giving Lampard his old job back.
Former Arsenal player Ian Wright gives Chelsea boss and friend Frank Lampard advice over which Blue to select up front – and I bet you can guess who!
Wright is all over the show as a pundit, he was also a respected Gunners striker in his day. So, he’s not a typical person to offer a helping hand to anybody associated with Chelsea, naturally. Nevertheless, the pundit is now an apparent ‘friend’ of Lampard, presumably through television work together. The former says he wants the best for the latter, yet feels the ex-England midfielder has a mammoth task on his hands on Fulham Road.
Meanwhile, Wright made a suggestion to Lampard in order to assist in facilitating a turnaround in form. Or at least maybe an improvement in front of goal. Yep, you’ve guessed it – ‘Wrighty’ reckons onetime Arsenal centreforward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could do the business for the Blues if his gaffer gave him the proper opportunity. I mean, there’s a blatant conflict of interest here because Wright will admire and respect ‘Auba’ from his time at the Emirates Stadium.
Wright actually made the claim after Aubameyang again failed to make any impression during the weekend loss in the west Midlands. Therefore, I am not too sure the Match of the Day man’s proposal shall be considered too carefully by his mate in the CFC hotseat.
