It only ended 2-0

The men in white had their way with their opponents all game. They took 18 shots, 10 of them being on target. The game ended with Los Blancos accumulating 2.29 expected goals (xG). Vinicius Jr, Karim Benzema, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric were key players in ensuring that Lampard’s men were under pressure at every point in the game. The 2-0 scoreline is a good thing because the task at Stamford Bridge, while still very difficult, doesn’t seem insurmountable, and that will affect the way the players approach the game.

Enzo Fernandez

Fernandez was good overall, though he didn’t offer much defensively. The whole midfield did nothing to help control the game, but Fernandez did very well for ball progression. The Argentine completed 13/16 long balls and made 18 passes into the final third, more than Kroos’s 17. He also created two chances and won the most fouls of anyone on the pitch (4). In a game where the majority of the Chelsea players were ineffective, the former Benfica midfielder stood out for all the right reasons.
