Chelsea are searching for a new long term manager after sacking Graham Potter earlier this month following a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge to Aston Villa. Since then Chelsea have appointed Frank Lampard as an interim manager until the end of the season as their search continues.

Chelsea have been without a win since 11th March as Lampard’s arrival has not injected inspiration in the squad. The problems in the squad run much deeper and it will take a herculean effort to solve the issues at bay. It has to be a structured process and a time consuming one.

One of the first steps to solve the problems at the club is to get the right managerial appointment. Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali oversaw the recruitment process when Thomas Tuchel was sacked. The Chelsea owners conducted the interviews and in a short span of time, reached the decision to appoint Potter.

Ruben Amorim will not be the next Chelsea manager

Back then Chelsea did not have a technical and a sporting director but now the Blues are well equipped with experienced men. Technical directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are in charge of carrying out the recruitment process. The club hierarchy is determined to carry out an exhaustive process and the talks are proceeding well.

Chelsea do have a shortlist and have carried out interviews with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann. Other names on the list were Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, Antonio Conte, Luciano Spalletti and even Jose Mourinho. Enrique flew to London to present ideas about the squad. Chelsea chiefs were left impressed with the Spaniard but wanted to carry out other interviews before finalizing on a name.

Nagelsmann also had the chance to introduce himself to the club chiefs. The German also held talks with them and continues to be in the running for the vacant job. Christopher Vivell knows Nagelsmann well as the duo worked together at RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.

According to The Athletic, the managerial hunt is now at a middle stage with the shortlist now whittled down to a handful of names. It is also understood that Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is no longer in the running to become the next CFC manager.

Stewart and Winstanley will conduct multiple rounds of interviews before finally reaching a decision. Boehly and Eghbali will get involved for ratification. So far, there is no clear favourite for the job but a decision is expected in the coming weeks.
