In what has been described as possibly the understatement of the season, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has admitted his collective has made mistakes. Yet accountability isn’t the west London club’s main concern at present: sorting out the complete omnishambles is the priority.

For all his obvious qualities as a successful billionaire businessman and family man, Boehly and Co. have gotten themselves into an extremely expensive predicament at Stamford Bridge. While I still value the American’s drive to succeed at CFC, along with Clearlake Capital’s ambition, we have truly witnessed a Hail Mary approach. An appropriate plan nor recruitment strategy were in place. Boehly seems partially concerned with image and personal impression as opposed to full focus on Chels‘. Being photographed with beers and giving the media coy answers will only impress fans for so long. While the the financier is certainly not the culprit or source of every bad idea, if reports are accurate, he is a primary wrongdoer.

Identifying misdirection and error is important going forward, so not to repeat 2022/23. The same could be said for any company in or business with issues. Yet there is a more pressing priority: ensuring CFC is now heading in the correct direction with adequate staff, and eventually appropriate players. All aspects of the club require the same scrutiny as was necessary and apparently applied as due diligence when Roman Abramovich departed. So what did Boehly say about errors, exactly? In a CFC meeting – ‘a room of full of bankers and business associates during a private function’ – about next season’s vision, Boehly acknowledged fault. However, he ‘did not elaborate on the specific details‘.

In related news, the 49-year-old and a group with him were supposedly refused entry to the Blues dressing room by Thomas Tuchel. That’s why the German was sacked, says this report. Boehly is even said to now be causing disillusion among squad stars.
