Frank Lampard’s time as Chelsea’s interim manager indicates why the team needs to find a separate permanent boss before the start of next season. Under Lampard, the Blues have lost four consecutive matches, and the team looks clueless on the pitch. These performances have indeed called for the club owners to decide who will be the new manager.
From what we know, Julian Nagelsmann is out of the race to manage the west London outfit. The two strongly linked names now are Luis Enrique and Mauricio Pochettino. While Enrique is a name Chelsea fans will love to have, the same can’t be said for Pochettino considering his prior association with CFC’s North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
However, if Pochettino were to arrive at Chelsea, the Argentinian would surely have the backing of Thiago Silva. In January 2021, when Pochettino replaced ex-Blues manager Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain, Silva credited the former Spurs manager. He appreciated Pochettino’s work with Spurs and spoke of the 57-year-old’s link with PSG. Silva had said:
"“Mauricio Pochettino did a good job with Tottenham, I think he comes very motivated, 20 years after playing for PSG. He knows the club a bit. Of course, that has changed a lot, but he knows football a lot, he will work with very high-level players. I am still a supporter of PSG.”"
As of now, it is not clear whether or not Pochettino will manage Chelsea or not. Based on the current situation, there are multiple names rumored to take charge of the Blues. However, considering the Argentinian’s Premier League experience, one can’t deny that Pochettino has what it takes to be an ideal fit at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will play Brentford at home in their next outing
Currently situated in 11th position in the Premier League, Chelsea is set to continue their Premier League campaign against Brentford, who are five points ahead of them at 10th. This game will be an important one for the Blues to get back on the winning track and boost their chances of finishing in the top 10.
Going into the game, Chelsea will miss out on center-back Kalidou Koulibaly, who picked up a hamstring injury in CFC’s 1st leg defeat to Real Madrid. However, apart from the Senegalese defender, manager Frank Lampard will have most players available at his disposal. It will be interesting to see the starting 11 Lampard selects for this game.
