Chelsea were handed another dreadful defeat at Stamford Bridge as Frank Lampard’s Blues fell 2-0 to Brentford on Wednesday. Although CFC ended up on the losing side, the game served as an opportunity for the Blues to view Ivan Toney and David Raya closely.

Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment is imminent as the Blues are in final stages of finalizing the new manager. With Pochettino coming in, he will have his own ideas of upgrading the squad. Nonetheless, CFC are keen to sign a goalkeeper and a prolific striker in the summer.

Chelsea have been looking to upgrade their goalkeeping position as Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy face uncertain futures at the club. Kepa has been the club’s first choice keeper but there is belief that CFC can sign a more reliable and competent keeper than Kepa.

Chelsea’s biggest problem this season has been the lack of goalscorers in the squad. Without a focal point up top, the Blues have only managed to net 30 goals in 32 Premier League games. CFC are yet to decide on Romelu Lukaku’s future as the Belgian is at Inter Milan until the end of the season.

According to football.london, Chelsea are monitoring Brentford duo of Raya and Toney. The Blues of London have prepared a shortlist of keepers that consists of Raya of Brentford, Andre Onana of Inter Milan, Roberto Sanchez of Brighton and Giorgi Mamardashvili of Valencia.

CFC are also set to meet Inter Milan next week to discuss Lukaku’s future and potentially discuss a swap deal that would see Onana come to Stamford Bridge. Raya added another clean sheet to his name last night as his clean sheet tally reached double figures (10) this season.

As far as the attack goes, the Blues have struggled to get goals despite having the likes of Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christian Pulisic and Joao Felix in the attack. The problem is that without a lethal No.9, Chelsea’s attacks are often nullified and fizzle out in the final third.

Toney presents a solid option. The Brentford striker has netted 19 goals in 31 Premier League games, averaging a goal every 147 minutes. Toney was strongly linked to Chelsea in the summer when the Blues were looking for a forward but in the end they ended up signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Toney is valued at £44.3 million but the Bees are likely to put a higher asking price. Raya is valued at £22.3 million but Brentford will employ the same strategy of putting a higher price tag to stave off interest.
