There were many things Madueke could have done better, but for a player who has gotten very limited starts for the Blues, it was a really good performance. It was a special way to score your first goal for your new club, though he wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as he would’ve wanted.

Mudryk was also impressive when he came on. He created more chances than the front three that started for the west London side. Creating three chances and registering a impressive 0.46 expected assists (xA). He looked lively and was clearly a nuisance for Arteta’s men. The fact that he did all that in the 16 minutes he played makes you wonder why he was benched for some of the players that started over him. Having arrived in January for big money, fans have scrutinized him and some have already concluded that he’s a flop. In reality he has not started many games, and is still aclimatizing to the Premier League.

There is no guessing how bad things can get as the Blues still have to play against three teams in the top four this season. Results from Southampton and Leeds United games mean that Chels‘ likely doesn’t get relegated, but after spending 600 million, that’s not a statement you thought you’d be reading about the club in May, was it?
