As a whole, the game was not as comfortable as it should have been. This may not seem a big issue now, but it is one. Lampard’s men enjoyed 66% of the ball, but only took one more shot than the cherries, and one more shot on target. In fact Gary O’Neill’s men took more shots from inside the box (7) than the Blues did (6). This is of course not Silva’s fault, and an inability to actually control games is a broader issue that Lampard’s teams have had.

Set piece deliveries

This is a much smaller point but Benoit Badiashile was not used well in offensive set pieces, well before Ziyech came on anyways. Chels‘ won and took seven corners in that game, yet none of them resulted directly in a shot, if at all.

In fact, only one shot creating action for the away side was from a set piece, and that was Ziyech’s assist for Badiashile. For context 98% of shots have two shot-creating actions attached to each one. The tall Frenchman only took one shot, despite his team getting seven corners.

He was the tallest player on the pitch against cherries and a set piece cross only found him for a shot once. 33% of his shots this season have been on target, but he only takes 0.6 shot per game. Lampard’s side must find him more in offensive set pieces if they want to get the best out of set piece situations.
