2. Coming together at the perfect time of year

You never want to be playing your best football right out of the gate to begin the campaign. Over the past few seasons, Hayes’ Blues have done a sensational job of that. The beginning may be a bit rocky, but when the calendar turns to May, the club knows exactly what the job is.

Not only is the build-up play a thing of beauty, but the finishing product has been there to match it. Hayes’ side has tested the opposition’s goalkeeper as much as possible, combining for 21 shots on net over the last two games. The west London side’s goal barrage over the last few days has allowed them to tie the league leaders on goal differential at +42 with another game in hand. Even if the two are level on points at the conclusion of the campaign, the Blues now have a clear upper hand on the tiebreaker.

This entire team right now simply exudes confidence, and the more times the Blues find the back of the net, the more momentum is created for the games in front of them. Going up against a team that is tied for the best defensive record in the WSL this season in the FA Cup final, Hayes’ side is going to have to believe they have what it takes to find a breakthrough. Players are hitting their top form at the right time while Hayes has the pleasure to chose from an extended list of players compared to what was at her disposal a few weeks ago. It is a combination of health, and quality on the pitch that has put the west Londoners’ in exact spot they need to be with four matches left.
