Blow for Chelsea as £52m attacker who Pochettino wanted will stay at current club
Chelsea continue to plan to strengthen their attack in the summer transfer window as the arrival of a lethal forward is must. Mauricio Pochettino is a huge admirer of Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane and wants to bring him to Stamford Bridge as he aims to start a fresh project this summer.
One of Chelsea’s primary aims in the summer window is to reinforce the attack. Chelsea’s goalscoring woes have been highlighted in bold this season and they need to be rectified before the onset of the next season.
Chelsea’s attack is expected to undergo major changes as the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could leave the Stamford Bridge. Pochettino would have a list of players he admires and Mane is on his list.
Chelsea were interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane
The former Liverpool attacker left Liverpool last summer, joining Bayern for £32 million but has endured a difficult first season in Bavaria. In 24 Bundesliga games, Mane has scored seven goals and assisted five goals. According to football.London, CFC have been plotting a move for Mane who is wanted by new manager Pochettino.
Mane has largely played as a centre forward for Bayern and occasionally operated on the left flank. Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is looking to sign a striker this summer which could affect Mane’s playing time next season. The Bundesliga giants are said to be open to the idea of offloading Mane (£52m market value) if a decent offer arrives on their table.
However, Chelsea have now received a blow in their chase of Mane. According to Metro, the Senegalese forward has no intention of leaving Bayern in the upcoming summer transfer window. Pochettino was keen to sign the 31 year old as he fits the profile that the Argentine manager wanted at Stamford Bridge. Mane is happy at Bayern and has no intention to return to the Premier League.
The former Southampton boss also wants to recruit a new goalkeeper and a central midfielder along with a striker. Names of Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo, Declan Rice and Manuel Ugarte have been linked with the Blues. Meanwhile, shot stoppers David Raya, Roberto Sanchez, Emiliano Martinez and Andre Onana are said to be on Chelsea’s shortlist.
However, CFC’s priority in June will be to sell players and balance the books by 30th June to avoid any Financial Fair Play violations.
Should CFC make a concrete push to sign Sadio Mane?
