Erik ten Hag has clearly made improvements on what looked to be a dead squad in need of a complete overhaul coming off the previous campaign, but I would say there’s still work to be done. United lacks a consistent goal-scorer and depth in defense, but players like Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony can cause problems for any individual defender when they’re at their best. It will be interesting to see what back line Frank Lampard uses to counteract the home side’s pace and agility. Let’s leave the tactics to the side, though. This article is about making money.

Well, at least it’s supposed to be. The past three matches have been extremely difficult for the gambling guides, as the Blues can’t seem to decide which version of themselves they want to be. They were a stodgy defensive team that simply couldn’t score for most of the year, before randomly dropping a three-week stretch when they became a high-flying attack that also conceded a ton of goals. Now, they’ve gone back into their defensive shell and couldn’t find the back of the net despite totalling 1.25 xG and 13 shots against City. I just don’t know how to bet on this team anymore.

I’ll try to simplify things against Manchester United. I’ve been riding the prop train for most of the season, but it’s always nice to get back to basics with at least one bet on moneyline results or straight overs/unders. With that in mind, I like United on the ML at -170 odds for Thursday. The Red Devils simply need this result more than Chelsea does and motivation is often the deciding factor in who wins matches towards the end of a campaign. The value obviously isn’t great, so you may want to stake a larger unit on this play to see a tangible return.’
