A big six Premier League club is attempting to muscle in on much sought-after Chelsea transfer target Romeo Lavia of Southampton. Meanwhile a Blues legend tells Mauricio Pochettino to rid himself of a particularly disappointing signing.

Chelsea might perhaps miss out on a promising defensive midfield addition. Liverpool have apparently ‘registered interest’ in Lavia alongside CFC. That is according to Football Insider; Arsenal are also rivals for the 19-year-old’s signature.

"Mauricio Pochettino’s new team have been the frontrunners to land Lavia but Liverpool’s approach suggests a stunning hijack could now be on the cards.Man City have a buy-back clause worth £40million for Lavia, who left the Etihad Stadium for the Saints last summer (2022). That option becomes active in the summer of 2024."

A recommendation for Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino is not scheduled to join the Blues properly until July 1. But I’m positive that a pragmatic and meticulous man, such as the Argentine, will be getting down to business right now. In fact, almost every aspect and dimension of the club will be redirected and rearranged by then, if necessary. Pochettino will certainly know which players he wants to keep or sell. In addition to that factor, he’ll also have a fair idea which signings he wants CFC to target.

On that note, former Blues favourite Frank Leboeuf has made a suggestion to the latest gaffer on Fulham Road. Predictably, the onetime centreback has publicly suggested to ‘Poch’ that he should get rid of Romelu Lukaku. I think we’ve all had those thoughts about the CFC roster for nearly two years now. That move was destined to fail. However, if any manager could get the best out of the Belgian international, who does have talent but is rather unrefined and unfocused, Pochettino probably could.

To be fair to Leboeuf, once people are aware that Lukaku earns £350,000-a-week from at Stamford Bridge it is hard not to support the proposal that a permanent move is ideal for the west Londoners, if not the striker himself. The ex-Chels‘ man cited the 30-year-old’s own comment about leaving; Leboeuf did admit that he does like the player personally.
