While the first signing of Mauricio Pochettino’s era is still awaited, the Blues are close to sanctioning an exit. CFC will have to sell players as a squad overhaul is expected in the summer transfer window. Kai Havertz is now close to leaving Chelsea as Real Madrid are keen on him.

The Blues want to sign a potent striker this summer and have been keeping an eye on Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus, Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan. CFC striker Romelu Lukaku wants to stay at Inter, where he spent the 2022-23 season on loan. The Belgian has no intentions to return to Stamford Bridge but there is no agreement between CFC and Inter over a transfer for Lukaku.

With Chelsea signing a new striker, Havertz will no longer operate in the forward role. The German anyways struggled to get going as the lone striker and was better suited when playing behind a striker or off the right. There are arguments that Havertz’s impact has diminished and he has not lived up to the expectations.

Kai Havertz is close to leaving Chelsea

A few days ago a report surfaced that if Karim Benzema was to leave Real Madrid, the Los Blancos will target Havertz. The German’s name was internally discussed and soon there was confirmation that Real Madrid will bid farewell to Benzema after 13 seasons at the club. Chelsea were open to selling Havertz but would look to recoup the maximum amount of the €80 million they paid for him in 2020.

According to German outlet BILD, Real Madrid are close to reaching an agreement with Chelsea for Havertz for €60 million. The deal could get completed very quickly as the German remains open to a move to Santiago Bernabeu.

The report adds that CFC are not in a strong position to negotiate as they need to make sales to generate income. If the deal takes place for €60 million, the Blues will suffer a loss of €20 million.

Havertz’s departure could become the first exit of Pochettino era with many more departures expected. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is in talks with AC Milan, Mateo Kovacic is very close to agreeing personal terms with Manchester City and Mason Mount remains a target for Manchester United.

Selling Havertz could see CFC intensify their efforts to sign a striker with attempts made to sign their preferred target soon.
