Mateo Kovacic has seemingly confirmed what mostly all Chelsea supporters expected. Have we seen the last of the Croatian technician in a Blues shirt?

Out of all the reported CFC stars up for sale this summer – Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy, Cesar Azpilicueta, Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Trevoh Chalobah, Callum Hudson-Odoi and potentially Kai Havertz – Kovacic is the one that I believe is probably the most talented. ‘Kova’ is an athlete who arguable should be kept if possible; like Mount, allowing the Croatia international to leave will most likely directly come back to haunt the west London team in an important Premier League or European game. That scenario only applies if the Blues get back into Europe at some point.

But don’t worry, I am not beginning to doom-monger: Chelsea are now in great hands under Mauricio Pochettino and will soon return to big time competitions like the Champions League. However, ‘Poch’ shall probably have to reignite CFC passion, fire and quality to qualify without Kovacic for the upcoming campaign. The 29-year-old has been speaking on his future after what he correctly described as a ‘really bad season’. In addition to that statement, the midfielder strongly implied that he is to leave Stamford Bridge during this coming transfer window. He said that the indication is that he will now ‘change environment‘ following five years as a Chels’ player. When asked about a switch to Manchester City, Kova was coy.

It appears that ex-CFC man Glen Johnson agrees with me on the Kovacic situation. The 38-year-old, who was on Fulham Road for around four years, suggests that Chelsea would be better off with Kovacic. Meanwhile, the former is not particularly a fan of Havertz, who he says Chels may as well cash in on.
