With another busy summer ahead for Chelsea, there will be many incomings and outgoings at the club. But what would be the best three signings Chelsea could make?
In this article, I will look to give my opinions on the three best transfers for the club going forwards.
Bear in mind, these are my opinions and it is based on value for money, importance in positional needs, and their fit for Chelsea.
3 best transfers Chelsea could make this summer
The first and most important signing Chelsea could make this summer is Moises Caicedo from Brighton.
With Declan Rice looking like he is off to Arsenal this summer, Chelsea are desperate for a defensive minded midfielder, who can unleash Enzo Fernandez into more creative roles and build a formidable partnership with Enzo for years to come.
Brighton will require an “important” fee for Caicedo and they have the negotiation power, due to Chelsea’s need for midfielders this summer, and they will know they hold the cards in this scenario.
Caicedo fits the mould Chelsea are looking for in midfield, producing 2.87 tackles per 90, 1.61 interceptions per 90 and 1.23 blocks per 90. This defensive, all action midfielder is exactly what Chelsea are looking for, especially after the loss of N’Golo Kante.
The second signing I would suggest as one of the best signings Chelsea could make this summer is Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
After winning the Scudetto with Napoli this season, Osimhen is said to be willing for a new challenge, and with Chelsea desperate for a number 9 this could be a match made in heaven. Osimhen has often referred to his love for former CFC striker Didier Drogba, and the Nigerian striker could be the man to take over the Drogba mantle and lead Chelsea to glory.
Osimhen made 39 appearances in all competitions this season for Napoli, scoring 31 goals and providing five assists, leading them to their first Scudetto since 1989/90. Osimhen has gone strength to strength scoring 10+ goals in every season for RSC Charleroi, LOSC Lille and Napoli.
If the 24-year-old striker signs for The Blues, he could be a part of a new look attack next season, featuring Christopher Nkunku, Mykahlio Mudryk and Noni Madueke (as well as others such as Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz).
The third and final signings I am putting forward for the best signings Chelsea can make this summer is Andre Onana.
Chelsea and Pochettino are said to be keen in signing a new number one goalkeeper to transform the defence. With Mendy’s future up the in the air, and the constant questioning on if Kepa Arrizabalaga is good enough, Onana could be the perfect signing for The Blues.
The 27-year-old is a modern day style keeper, excellent with his feet and distribution and a decent shot stopper. Importantly Onana has also developed into a leader whilst at Inter Milan, something CFC lack and this could also help with the relatively young backline Chelsea will have without the likes of Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpiliceuta in the future.
Onana’s ability to distribute the ball will be perfect for Pochettino, as he likes to mix playing from the back with direct football at times. Onana averages 35.46 passes attempted per 90, and has a 41% completion rate for passes over 40 yards per 90, which ranks in the top 75% amongst goalkeepers.
The ability to negotiate with Inter Milan is another positive for this deal, as there are many players Inter Milan are also interested in from CFC, including Trevoh Chalobah, potentially Edouard Mendy and of course Romelu Lukaku who is currently on loan at Inter. These players could be used in potential swap deals, or provide money to fund the move of Onana.
Which signing should CFC make?
