Chelsea are planning to upgrade their goalkeeper this summer with the futures of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in doubt. The Blues have a long list of targets with AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan being one of the names considered for the CFC No.1 spot.

Chelsea have been linked to David Raya of Brentford, Robert Sanchez of Brighton, Andre Onana of Inter Milan and Maignan from AC Milan. The Blues have also been loosely linked to Jordan Pickford and Emiliano Martinez but as things stand, CFC seem to be concentrated on Onana and Maignan.

The French international has been at AC Milan since 2021 and has made 68 appearances for the Rossoneri in the last two seasons. In the 2022-23 season, Maignan made a total of 29 appearances (22 in Serie A and 7 in UEFA Champions League), as he missed a major chunk of the season because of calf injuries. He recorded eight clean sheets and conceded 21 goals.

His 2021-22 season was fantastic as he registered the highest save percentage over the top five European leagues with 81.2%. He also had the highest clean sheet percentage in Serie A with 53.1%. The Frenchman kept the most clean sheets with 17 in Serie A.

According to Alessandro Carra (via Calciomercato), CFC already made an offer to the 27 year old keeper. Chelsea offered Maignan a contract that would see him earn €155,000 in weekly wages which amounts to around €8 million a year.

However, the Blues have now received a blow in the chase of Maignan. According to Foot Mercato, the French keeper has conveyed to Chelsea that he is not interested in joining the Blues this summer. The reason behind Maignan’s rejection is thought to be Chelsea’s inadequacy to provide European football next season.

Maignan is unhappy with the sacking of Paolo Maldini from the role of technical director but he doesn’t wish to join Chelsea. With Maignan’s chase off for now, the West London outfit could focus on getting Onana who has been drawing praise following his performances this season.

According to Sempre Inter, Inter Milan have slapped a massive price tag of €70 million on the 27 year old shotstopper. In comparison, Maignan is valued at around €35 million by Transfermarkt. The Blues also have other targets on their list but their preference seems to be fixated on Onana or Maignan.
