New Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly chosen his Blues No.1 amid links to a trio of external goalkeepers with the transfer window active.

It seems that Kepa’s minor heroics in 2022/23 did not go unnoticed by his new club manager. Sky Sports reports that Pochettino has already selected the Spaniard as his main goalkeeper. The former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur boss is planning for 2023/24 at Stamford Bridge due to his eagerly awaited Premier League return.

Whether or not it is realistic for us to expect the Argentine gaffer to have made Kepa his first choice without managing the Spain international in a Blues game is debatable to say the least. However, I do consider the source to typically be trustworthy; the rumour’s prominence with the outlet is usually revealing in these matters. I rate Kepa, I have to say. Although, I am not sure he is the man to protect Chelsea’s backline as they aim to rule the footballing world again in the near future. There are three further stoppers linked with the west London team, all of whom are arguably better suited.

Trio of goalkeepers remain connected with respective transfers to Chelsea in spite of Kepa Arrizabalaga claim

First of all there is Mike Maignan of AC Milan; the Frenchman undoubtedly and fairly made his name with the Italian outfit. Though it is said that Maignan is not interested in moving to CFC, possibly because the Blues failed to secure their place in any European competition for the upcoming season.

Secondly, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana; I feel that even with Poch it might be difficult to lure ‘keepers of this calibre for the same reason. Nevertheless, Onana and Maignan are ‘top targets’. Speculation is that the Blues also admire Brighton & Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez; a contradictory claim states that the CFC gaffer doesn’t want Kepa involved.
