The ideal Chelsea XI with dream signings in 4-2-3-1
Reece James, Right back, England
No need to explain why James is here. He’s one of the best right backs in Europe and his wages now reflect that. The worry with James is his fitness, as he only played 16 games in the league last season, and that is incredibly low for a key player, for that role. The good thing is that the club seems determined to get James back to full fitness by giving him ample time to recover and rehabilitate so he can come back as strong as possible.
Wesley Fofana, Right centerback, France
Fofana had some very good games and toward the end of the season, some very shaky ones too. His long passing needs work, but he’s generally okay in the passing department. His ball carrying and ability to win fouls to relieve his teammates of pressure. He has shown an excellent ability to read the game as well, proven by the sheer number of interceptions he has to his name.
Benoit Badiashile, Left centerback, France
Everything about Badiashile last season was impeccable, including his ability to read the game, win duels and pass the ball. He was the Blues’ best centerback passer.
Ben Chilwell, Left back, England
Chilwell has had a similar problem to James this past season, but he should be ready for the new season. Chelsea is a much better side with the former Leicester City defender in it. The return of Ian Maatsen doesn’t change anything for Chilwell, though Marc Cucurella may have something to think about, but it’s safe to assume that Cucurella will be number 1 backup to Chilwell as things stand.
