The ideal Chelsea XI with dream signings in 4-2-3-1
Christopher Nkunku, Central attacking midfielder, France
Nkunku just finished the Bundesliga season as the highest goalscorer with 16 goals. The previous season before he scored 20 goals. This indicates that Mauricio Pochettino is getting a goal scorer and a consistent one at that. The general consensus in the learned community is that Nkunku is a well rounded forward and they’re right. Nkunku would be able to play behind or alongside a center forward, but would also be able to play as a center forward if the need arose.
Raheem Sterling, Left winger, England
Sterling had a poor 2022/23 season, but the truth is that no forward had a good season, and the team only had competent coaching 6 league games out of 38. The hope is that Pochettino would utilize Sterling to the best of his abilities. However, Sterling himself has to sit up, as the highest earner at the club and one of the higher profile signings, he needs to make sure he shows everyone why he was so important to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for six years.
Dusan Vlahovic, Center forward, Serbia
Yes, Nicolas Jackson has been all but signed, but while the Senegal international is extremely talented, he looks more like an inside forward or a second striker. Many things Jackson indicate may not be the center forward the Blues want, while being the player they want. Jackson has the dribbling and pressing numbers of a winger, completing 68% of his dribbles and winning the ball 0.5 times in the final third per game.
He also doesn’t have the shot taking numbers of a center forward, taking 1.6 shots per game. Vlahovic would be the ideal center forward signing if the west London giants can move on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku. The Juventus striker is a lethal finisher whose movement is as good as the best of them.
At 6 ft. 3 (1.9m), he’s the perfect height for a center forward. He also has very good holdup play and superb free kick taking ability, he is very good at bringing other forwards into play. He was fighting for scraps all season at Juventus, and as long as he’s in a team where he gets chances relatively regularly, he will score goals.
