A Chelsea star paid £150,000-a-week to regularly warm the bench and often be misused is set to leave Stamford Bridge in a cut price £15million transfer. Should Ruben Loftus-Cheek be the latest out of the Blues’ door?

I have said before that Loftus-Cheek is, like Trevoh Chalobah, ideal as a squad player on Fulham Road. But maybe that is the problem: this level of athlete won’t consider even an important substitute role unless sides such as Manchester City inquire.

Therefore it would be understandable if Loftus-Cheek, for example, left for a large club seeking first team football. The England international is apparently close to joining AC Milan, as this reliable report suggests.

Manchester City fight Chelsea for transfer of Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri

Emphasis on youth is one of the only admirable aspects of today’s CFC under Todd Boehly’s misguided and misfiring ownership group. While Boehly’s attempts to muscle and use spending sprees to propel the Blues back to prominence were slightly admirable in a strong arm sense – it failed miserably. Maybe concentration on the next generation of CFC stars is the correct and pragmatic way forward.

Last week Chelsea acquired the services of 17 year old Jamaican Dujuan Richards. Supposedly, the Blues saw off the interest of Newcastle United whilst capturing the wonderkid. Richards is already a Jamaica National Team representative at that incredibly young age. This strategy is one of few prudent steps taken at Stamford Bridge in the past year or so.

Now Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, 16, is also on the Blues’ radar. Man City are tracking the attacking midfielder as well. Nwaneri is, of course, the youngest player in Premier League history after appearing for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners in September 2022 aged only 15. If the north London outfit fail to secure the youngster by Friday, the Citizens or CFC may swoop as the highest paying sides.
