3. Anatoliy Trubin
According to Fabrizio Romano, Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin is among the goalkeepers the blues are interested in pursuing. At 21-years old Trubin has already racked up loads of experience despite his age, being a regular starter for Shakhtar Donetsk and recording 14 clean sheets in 28 league matches last season.
The main draw of the Ukrainian keeper is his reflexes and shot-stopping ability. He can deal with shots outside of the box and thrives specifically in close encounters, using his anticipation and physical stature to save shots in the box. As a result, he’s drawn comparisons to former Chelsea man and current Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Trubin is also comfortable with the ball at his feet and capable of spotting the runs of his teammates. In term of flaws, his youth is still evident in how he deals with crosses. His cross collection and timing in knowing when to step out of his box could improve.
Another thing to keep in mind is how he will adapt to better quality shots in the premier league. While his clean sheet record was respectable in the Ukrainian league, he did concede 10 goals in six Champions League group stage matches. Yet, that should be expected considering the level of opposition and the shortcomings of the Shakhtar Donetsk defense in general.
Trubin has garnered interest from other European clubs as well, notably Inter Milan who are looking for replacements to compensate for the expected departure of Andre Onana. If Chelsea are to sign the Ukrainian, it would be crucial to move swiftly.
