Ticket prices take a jump, more Women’s Super League contests to be played at Stamford Bridge

This past week, Chelsea Women announced that not only are the prices of the season tickets taking a jump, but more matches are going to be played at Stamford Bridge. A total of seven guaranteed contests will be played in SW6 including four Women’s Super League games with the opponents yet to be decided. The cost for the four-match WSL package for this upcoming campaign has hiked up to £50-£170 for adults.

The lowest amount is more than what an adult season ticket cost last season. Due to the growth of the women’s game, and the excellence of Emma Hayes’ side over the past several seasons, an uptick in price makes sense. Hayes has been an advocate for more contests at the Bridge while expressing the idea that women’s football may be a little too cheap, especially when it comes to the marquee matchups.

With this increase in prices, the “Chelsea Women Supporters Group” and “Chelsea Pride” released a joint statement discussing the fact that they understand the need to move forward to grow women’s football, but these new prices will affect several fans within the group. Not matter how you slice it, it is a controversial topic. These women’s athletes deserve packed houses and to be valued more in the way of ticket pricing. On the other hand, with the cost of living consistently getting increasingly more expensive, fans may be at the crossroads in deciding to purchase a season ticket or not.

Either way, it is clear women’s football is continuing to take a turn away from the smaller stadiums. Kingsmeadow may still be a home for Hayes’ side, but this season the club seeks to make the Bridge more of its second home.
