A report suggests Chelsea have been making groundwork with regard to signing a top striker. The Pride of London explain how this scenario remains possible for the Blues. Meanwhile, the west London club may be following suit concerning a plan B blueprint from another elite outfit.

Having an eminent centreforward in the starting team feels essential for any major club. Obviously Manchester City managed to win the Premier League without one, though they are so unique that they may be the exception which proves the rule. Only when a main focal point in the form of Erling Haaland was added to the ranks did the Citizens truly dominate European football and finally lift the illustrious Champions League trophy under Pep Guardiola. Recent Blues strikers such as Romelu Lukaku or a mostly incongruous Kai Havertz haven’t got anywhere near to the solo attacker level required at Stamford Bridge. Just think back to great CFC No.9s like Didier Drogba, Diego Costa, and even Fernando Torres and Olivier Giroud. The chasm is dramatically vast.

I am unsure that Dusan Vlahovic is the man to fill the void between Chelsea legends and big money flops. The Serbia international arguably rests somewhere between the two aforementioned categories if you ask me. Of course, he absolutely has a decent scoring record for Juventus in the domestic division and on occasions in European competitions. Yet, if a forward doesn’t set alight Serie A, I don’t see them becoming a monumental success – which is what the Blues need – in the testing Premier League. Nevertheless, over the previous fortnight, Chels’ have apparently undertaken ‘groundwork’ for Vlahovic. Read more on that here.
