One of Chelsea’s main aims of the transfer window is to offload Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian was on loan at Inter Milan last season and made it very clear that he has no intention to play for Chelsea again. Despite the managerial change, Lukaku does not want to continue at Chelsea.
Chelsea were hoping that Inter Milan would eventually negotiate a deal for Lukaku. The Nerazzurri wanted to keep Lukaku and were willing to discuss the terms with Chelsea. Once the season ended, the Italian sat down with CFC and offered to take Lukaku on another loan but Chelsea wanted to offload the Belgian permanently.
Inter Milan and Chelsea were supposed to meet again and the Serie A outfit were expected to make a bid for the 30 year old. However, the news then broke out that Lukaku had also been in talks with Juventus which left Inter Milan furious and they decided to call off the Lukaku transfer. The Nerazzurri would no longer pursue a deal for the Belgian and walked off the table. This would certainly come as a blow to Chelsea’s hopes as Inter Milan were the favourites to sign Lukaku.
PSG could play a role in offloading Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea
Juventus’ offer is of €37.5 million + €2.5 million in add-ons. However, the condition of the deal is that the Old Lady will only proceed to sign Lukaku if they manage to sell Dusan Vlahovic by 4th August. Vlahovic is attracting interest from a number of clubs and there is a chance that Juve will cash in on him.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Lukaku wont travel with the squad for the USA pre-season tour and Chelsea’s priority is to sell the Belgian for £34 million. Juventus’ pursuit depends on PSG as the Parisiens are one of the most interested parties in the Serbian. The Ligue 1 outfit are looking at possible striker additions and view Vlahovic as a solid option. PSG could play a crucial role in helping Chelsea sell Lukaku.
It is more of a domino effect. If PSG sign Vlahovic, Juventus will enter the market and sign Lukaku for €40 million. However, CFC may have to wait until 4th August and the Blues want to sell Lukaku as soon as possible. The Inter Milan deal is off, Lukaku has rejected Saudi Arabia so the only possibility that remains on the table is a move to Juventus but for that to happen, the West London outfit will need a helping hand from PSG.
