2. Who will play in midfield alongside Enzo Fernández?

It’s been widely publicized that the West London side has lost a lot of players, but one position in particular where they’ve had so many departures is in midfield. N’Golo Kanté, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, and Kai Havertz, all of whom have played a lot for Chelsea over the years are no longer there. With those players being gone, the West London club has not done much to fill those spots in an area of the field that they desperately need insurance in.

So far, Chelsea has not signed any midfielders who will be good enough to play right now, and at the moment the only current midfielders that the Blues have got are Enzo Fernández, Conor Gallagher, and Carney Chukwuemeka. Rumors have been circulating that CFC has been in negotiations with Brighton & Hove Albion over midfielder Moisés Caicedo for a while now, as the Blues need all the help they can get in the middle of the park.

Considering how much money Chelsea has made from selling so many players you would think that now would be a good time to ante up that money on some new additions. The midfielders in the starting lineup Wednesday night will most likely be Fernández, Gallagher, and Chukwuemeka. But if Chelsea are serious about making strides this season it is imperative that they address this position of need.

Having only enough midfielders to field an 11 is a massive cause for concern. Currently, CFC hardly has any adequate backups that can fill in if one of their midfielders suffers an injury. Reserves are something that Chelsea needs to start thinking about as their first premier league of the season is less than a month away.
