Overlooked Chelsea player plays himself into Poch’s plans
An overlooked Chelsea player’s career has ostensibly made a dramatic U-turn and he is now in Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s plans for the season.
What a preseason it’s been for young Chelsea athlete Ian Maatsen. He has played his way into the boss’s thoughts for the coming season through fine performances and productivity. Quite a few of our The Pride of London writers have previously called for the Dutchman to receive a chance in 2023/24. This view partly arose due to the 21-year-old thriving on loan to Burnley during the previous campaign.
Maatsen may well get his Premier League opportunity following his offseason efforts; it was recently reported that he was up for sale. After making his CFC debut nearly four years ago, Pochettino might finally be the man to utilise the versatile left-footer:
"“I am so happy with him (Maatsen). He’s a player that can play in different positions. He understands the game. He is such a clever player”, Pochettino said, as quoted by Ben Jacobs on Twitter. In addition, Chelsea’s manager shared in his post-match comments that Maatsen is in his thoughts for the upcoming 2023/24 season.“So far he is in my plan,” Pochettino said about Maatsen, as quoted by Nizaar Kinsella on Twitter. The Chelsea Chronicle"
Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez makes revelations about transfer to west London side
Blues star Enzo Fernandez has admitted that the switch to England took ‘a lot out of him’ in a psychological sense. As he described a ‘stressful’ move, he insists that the decision remains the correct one. The Argentine completed a massive deadline day deal for approximately £107million around six months ago.
At the time, Fernandez was with a reluctant Benfica, who were convinced to part ways with their asset in the most cynical way: a huge fee. Now a candid interview reveals intriguing details from the period. The midfielder says the final stages of the agreement were conducted over an intense week.
In addition to that, the World Cup-winner claims that the Portuguese outfit didn’t want him to depart. Clearly we now know that this was a tactical device in order to extract further value. Fernandez states that he was anxious and even lost sleep over the situation, which apparently worked out to his benefit. All he ever wanted, he suggests, was to play in the Premier League for a huge club such as CFC.
