According to The Athletic, Chelsea and Monaco have come to a preliminary agreement for the transfer of Axel Disasi, a French international defender. Disasi has agreed to a five-year contract with Chelsea, with the possibility of extending it for an additional 12 months.

The deal is valued at approximately €45 million (£38 million). The 25-year-old will serve as a right-sided centre-back option for Chelsea, who are dealing with an injury to Wesley Fofana that is expected to sideline him for majority of the upcoming season.

Last season, while being a constant presence for Monaco, Disasi showcased his attacking abilities with three goals and three assists. Now, he’s eager to progress in his career. Known as one of Ligue 1’s finest defenders, standing at an imposing 190 cm, he’s not only skilled with the ball but also versatile in his positioning, having filled in at right-back in the past.

Who is Chelsea new signing Axel Disasi?

Additionally, the 25-year-old has earned four caps for the senior French national team, even starting as a right-back in the 2022 World Cup match against Tunisia, which France lost 1-0.

Disasi’s journey to Monaco commenced at Paris FC, where he progressed through the academy before transferring to Reims. During his four-year stint at Reims, he diligently honed his skills, transforming into a top-notch defender. Monaco took notice of his impressive performances and secured his services in 2020 for a fee of €13 million.

Since joining, the 25-year-old has rapidly emerged as one of Ligue 1’s standout defenders. His talent also earned him a spot in the France squad at the 2022 World Cup, where he made three appearances in Qatar.

Chelsea’s acquisition of Axel Disasi marks the second consecutive transfer window in which they’ve secured a centre-back from Monaco, following their signing of Benoit Badiashile in January. This trend indicates that Chelsea acknowledges the talent and potential within Monaco’s defensive ranks and aims to capitalize on their resources.

With Disasi’s imminent arrival at Chelsea, he has a chance to leave a substantial mark in the Premier League. His skill set and experience in high-level competitions position him well to handle the challenges of English football. Chelsea fans eagerly await his debut and anticipate the positive impact he can bring to the team’s defensive stability.

This would implicate Trevoh Chalobah’s place in the team as it’s been rumored that CFC have been offering him to several clubs such as Inter Milan. The signing of Axel Disasi would also mean the end of the pursuit of Cobham graduate, Marc Guehi.
