Fulham vs Chelsea: 5 Blues who must start
By Malcom David
2. Ian Maatsen
Along with Nicolas Jackson, Ian Maatsen has been a revelation this preseason. The Dutch left back who returned from Burnley on loan has featured everywhere but his actual position in each of CFC’s first three matches. However, Maatsen couldn’t have been more comfortable, impressing with his versatility and ability to contribute to the attack in more advanced positions. The 21-year-old has now not only staked his claim to remain in Chelsea’s official squad but has a shot to start the Blues first game Premier League game against Liverpool. This game against Fulham could be an opportunity to have Maatsen start at his favored leftback position and see what he can contribute from there.
3. Enzo Fernandez
Chelsea’s record signing Enzo Fernandez so far has proven to be worth every penny for the Blues. The Argentinian midfielder is now coming into his second season in blue and is expected to be the spine of this CFC midfield for years to come. With only two games left for the preseason and the sparse amount of midfield reinforcements, Fernandez needs more minutes under his belt to lead the charge in the middle of the park come Liverpool.
