Right back: Reece James

Reece James is undoubtedly one of the best full backs not only in the Premier League but also in Europe. The Englishman has become the Chelsea captain with Pochettino entrusting the homegrown player to lead the CFC side and become an impactful voice in the locker room. James’ fitness does pose a concern but CFC have adequate depth to make sure that the Englishman is not overburdened and work load is managed efficiently.

Centre back: Wesley Fofana

Although Wesley Fofana is injured for most part of the season after rupturing his ACL in the summer, he remains one of Chelsea’s best centre backs in the squad. His return date is still far and unclear but his presence would have given a huge boost to the CFC backline. Fofana’s absence will hurt the Blues and Pochettino will be hoping that Fofana makes a swift return to the CFC lineup.

Centre back: Thiago Silva

Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Disasi and Trevoh Chalobah all remain competent options but Thiago Silva is a clear choice in the backline. The Brazilian brings in experience and leadership qualities in the defence. Despite his age, he remains reliable and rock solid at the back.

Left back: Ben Chilwell

CFC signed Marc Cucurella last summer to provide competition to Ben Chilwell but the Spaniard has struggled in his first season and has been largely underwhelming. Chilwell looked impressive and his attacking forays have helped CFC to be threatening from the left flank when Mykhailo Mudryk was struggling to make an impact.
