Chelsea had a good preseason and started the season well. The first half featured a lot of shaky performances from some of the home side’s backline, which is not that surprising considering that there was a Premier League debutant in it. It evened out and both teams started creating very good chances around 30 minutes into the game.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men created two very good chances for Nicolas Jackson, who missed both. The lead fell to the visiting side when Mohamed Salah sliced open the Blues’ defense and put it on a plate for Luis Diaz, who took full advantage of his opportunity. The west London side regained parity when Axel Disasi put the ball past Alisson from a Ben Chilwell headed pass. Here is how the Pride of London rates the players.
Chelsea player ratings vs Liverpool
Robert Sanchez, Goalkeeper: 7/10
There is a case to be made that Sanchez could have done better for the lead Liverpool took, but that would be nitpicking. He made zero saves in the first half and completed 50% of his long balls. It was not a horrendous debut in a Chelsea shirt, but he wasn’t good either. His cross-collection was quite good though.
Axel Disasi, Right Centerback: 8/10
Disasi played very well. He made two key interceptions in the first half at times when Chelsea was under pressure. If you say he lost his marker, Diaz, for the opening goal, you also need to make the case that the ball should never have gotten across the backline in the first place. He won all the duels he contested in the first half, and his passing was great. He was as good in the second half.
